Founded by Don Fish and Ed Fish, IVF CRYO, LLC is a specialist company based in Fishers, Indiana, focused on one of the most sensitive services in healthcare—the storage and transport of reproductive tissue. Q&A:

In this interview, we sit down with Don Fish, co-founder of IVF CRYO, LLC, to discuss the unique challenges and responsibilities of running a reproductive tissue transport company. From starting out in California to building a trusted name in fertility logistics, Don shares how he and his brother Ed built a business rooted in precision, care, and purpose.

Q: Let’s start from the beginning. How did IVF CRYO come to be?

Don Fish:

It really started out of necessity. We were living in California at the time, and we kept hearing about people going through IVF who were worried about how their embryos or eggs were being moved. There wasn’t much structure around it. Some clinics handled transport themselves, others used general courier services. It just didn’t feel right for something that important. So in 2018, we filed for LLC status and started IVF CRYO with the goal of doing it better—more safely, more professionally, and with a real understanding of what’s at stake.

Q: You mentioned there was a gap in the industry. What made you confident you could fill it?

Don:

We didn’t see anyone focusing purely on transport. Everyone else was trying to offer a full menu—labs, storage, testing—and doing transport on the side. We wanted to flip that and say, “Let’s get really good at just this one thing.” We knew that if we could build strong relationships with clinics and earn trust from patients, we’d have a real shot. And that’s what we did. We kept the focus tight. Shipping reproductive tissue, done right.

Q: You later moved the company from California to Indiana. Why the shift?

Don:

We moved to Fishers, Indiana in 2020. It made a lot of sense logistically. More space, easier access to national shipping routes, and lower operational costs. Plus, we were scaling up, and Indiana gave us a better foundation to grow. Since then, it’s really helped us serve both individual patients and larger IVF clinics more efficiently across the U.S.

Q: What exactly does IVF CRYO do on a day-to-day level?

Don:

Our core service is the transport and storage of reproductive tissue—that includes embryos, eggs, and sperm. We work with two main groups: individual patients (B2C) and IVF clinics (B2B). Sometimes the clinic hires us to manage the transport for their patient. Sometimes the patient contacts us directly. Either way, we’re responsible for getting something extremely sensitive from point A to point B, often across states or even borders. We also provide short-term storage solutions when needed. But everything we do revolves around that one goal: safely protecting what will one day become someone’s child.

Q: That’s quite a responsibility. How do you handle the pressure?

Don:

We treat every shipment like it’s our own. That sounds simple, but in this business it means checking every detail twice, maintaining temperature conditions without fail, and communicating clearly with everyone involved. There’s no “close enough” here. We’ve had cases where a single embryo represents years of treatment, savings, and emotional investment. That’s not just a package—it’s someone’s future. We don’t take that lightly.

Q: Has any moment stuck with you over the years?

Don:

There was a case early on where a couple had tried IVF multiple times. They had one embryo left, stored out of state. They were moving clinics and needed it transported. They were nervous—rightfully so. We talked them through the whole process. I remember calling them after the delivery was confirmed, and the woman said, “That was the first time I felt peace since we started this journey.” That’s when I realised this wasn’t just a logistics company. We’re in the business of protecting hope.

Q: What makes IVF CRYO different from other companies?

Don:

We stick to what we’re good at—transport. That’s our lane. And we take it seriously. We’ve spent years refining our systems, building checklists, working with clinics, and training our team. We know the stakes. People are trusting us with something irreplaceable. I always say, if you want to know what sets us apart, ask for our brochure—we lay it all out there. It’s not about buzzwords. It’s about the process and the results.

Q: What challenges have you had to overcome?

Don:

There’s always the challenge of perception. Some people still assume shipping tissue is simple—it’s not. It’s temperature-sensitive, highly regulated, and time-critical. We’ve also had moments online—like a Reddit post mentioning “IVF CRYO Transport”—that pushed us to look even closer at how we communicate with the public. We took that seriously. We reviewed our materials, made improvements, and strengthened our messaging. In a way, it helped. Sometimes outside feedback makes you sharper.

Q: How do you see the future of IVF CRYO and the industry overall?

Don:

More families are turning to IVF every year, and that means more need for trustworthy services like ours. The science is evolving, the demand is growing, but the pressure remains the same: get it right every time. We’re not chasing massive growth. We’re focused on being consistent, reliable, and ethical. That’s what builds long-term trust. And we’re still hands-on. Ed and I are still here every day, training new staff, checking systems, making sure things run the way they’re supposed to.

Q: Final thoughts for someone learning about IVF CRYO for the first time?

Don:

We’re a shipping company, yes—but we’re also part of a bigger story. Every delivery we make is tied to someone’s journey to start a family. That’s something we never forget. You don’t get second chances in this work. So we do everything we can to make the first one count.
