Nathan Heddleston is a seasoned professional with a rich background in both education and athletics.

Born and raised in East Liverpool, Ohio, Nathan developed a passion for sports at a young age, participating in track and field events that instilled in him the values of discipline and perseverance. He pursued his academic interests at the University of Mount Union, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Education. During his time there, Nathan Heddleston also excelled as an athlete, becoming a two-time Ohio Athletic Conference Champion, which further solidified his commitment to excellence.

After completing his undergraduate studies, Nathan continued his academic journey at Nova Southeastern University, where he obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA. His strong academic background and leadership skills led him to a successful career as a track and field coach at the University of Mount Union. Under his guidance, his teams achieved multiple NCAA National Championships, and he was recognized as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Coach of the Year several times.

Nathan’s professional journey reflects his ability to adapt and lead effectively across various domains. In addition to his success in education and athletics, he has demonstrated a commitment to mentoring young professionals and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Nathan’s career is marked by his dedication to excellence, his strategic vision, and his passion for developing the potential of others in his field.

What do you do at your work?

In my work, I oversee the logistics of transportation and parking management for a variety of clients. My primary role involves improving operational efficiency and implementing innovative solutions to ensure the highest standards of service. I manage teams to ensure seamless coordination between different departments and stakeholders, which is crucial for optimizing our operations. Additionally, I focus on enhancing customer satisfaction by maintaining reliable and effective services. This requires a strategic approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement. Every day is different, which keeps my work dynamic and challenging.

Who do you admire?

I greatly admire John Wooden, the legendary basketball coach. His leadership style and his dedication to developing his players both on and off the court have always inspired me. Wooden’s emphasis on character, integrity, and hard work resonates with my own values. His Pyramid of Success and his ability to motivate and inspire athletes to achieve their best while maintaining a focus on teamwork and personal growth are principles I strive to incorporate into my own leadership style. Wooden’s legacy is a testament to the power of positive leadership and the impact a great mentor can have on their team.

Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?

Looking back, I think I would have taken more risks earlier in my career. When I transitioned from coaching to the corporate world, I was hesitant to step out of my comfort zone. While this caution allowed me to develop at my own pace, I now realize that embracing challenges and taking calculated risks can lead to tremendous growth and learning. I also wish I had sought out more mentors earlier in my journey. Learning from others who have walked similar paths can provide invaluable insights and guidance. Despite these reflections, I appreciate the journey I’ve had and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

What defines your way of doing business?

My way of doing business is defined by a commitment to integrity, excellence, and collaboration. I believe in setting high standards for myself and my team and holding everyone accountable to those standards. Communication is key in my approach; I prioritize open and transparent dialogue to ensure everyone is aligned with our goals. I also focus on fostering a supportive environment where team members feel empowered to contribute their ideas and take ownership of their work. Ultimately, I strive to build a culture of trust and mutual respect, where everyone is motivated to achieve their best.

What advice would you give to someone starting out?

My advice to someone starting out would be to embrace a mindset of continuous learning. The landscape of any industry is constantly evolving, and staying curious and open to new ideas will keep you adaptable and relevant. Don’t be afraid to take risks and step out of your comfort zone; that’s where real growth happens. Building a strong network of mentors and peers is also crucial, as they can provide support and guidance throughout your career. Finally, always stay true to your values and maintain a balance between your professional and personal life. Success is not just about achieving career milestones; it’s about leading a fulfilling and balanced life.
