Growing up in Mazatlán, I was deeply influenced by my parents’ dedication to their respective fields. My mother, Clementina, was an educator, and my father, Ernesto, was a civil engineer who founded a children’s hospital. Their commitment to serving the community instilled in me a sense of responsibility and a desire to make a meaningful impact. It felt natural to pursue careers in both education and healthcare, as they are fundamental pillars of a thriving society.
How did you navigate the financial challenges during the 2008 economic crisis while leading Instituto Anglo Moderno?
The 2008 economic crisis was a formidable challenge, but it also taught us invaluable lessons in financial resilience. We conducted a thorough review of our financial practices and implemented strict budget controls to ensure that every expense was justified. Diversifying our revenue streams by introducing new programs and services also helped us stay afloat. Moreover, building a financial reserve provided us with the safety net needed to navigate through tough times. This period reinforced the importance of financial discipline and strategic planning.
What role does technology play in modern education, and how have you integrated it into your institution?
Technology has revolutionized education by making learning more accessible, interactive, and personalized. At Instituto Anglo Moderno, we have embraced various digital learning platforms and tools to enhance our teaching methods. For instance, adaptive learning software allows us to tailor instruction to individual student needs, ensuring that each student can learn at their own pace. We also use online resources to expand our curriculum and provide a more engaging learning experience. Integrating technology has not only improved the quality of education but also prepared our students for the digital world.
Can you share some of your most impactful philanthropic initiatives?
Philanthropy has always been a core aspect of my life. One of the most impactful initiatives was our response to the 2021 earthquake in Mexico City. We mobilized resources to provide essential supplies, medical assistance, and temporary housing to affected communities. Another significant effort was supporting the rebuilding of schools and hospitals in the aftermath. Additionally, during the 2019 hurricane in Sinaloa, we provided school equipment donations to San Ignacio public school. These initiatives highlight the importance of timely and coordinated support to help communities recover and rebuild.
What advice would you give to young leaders looking to make a difference in their communities?
My advice to young leaders is to stay true to your values and remember that true leadership is about service. Be financially disciplined and adaptable to changing circumstances. Always keep learning and embrace new technologies and ideas. Most importantly, measure your success by the positive impact you create in your community rather than just financial gains. Building strong relationships and fostering trust within your community are essential for long-term success and meaningful contributions.

Balancing professional responsibilities with personal interests and family life is crucial for overall well-being. I make it a point to dedicate time to my hobbies, such as playing guitar and participating in dog shows. Traveling and spending quality time with family also help me maintain a broader perspective on life. It’s important to create a balance that allows you to recharge and stay motivated. This balance not only enhances your personal life but also makes you a more effective and empathetic leader.
What do you consider your greatest professional accomplishment?
One of my greatest professional accomplishments is the expansion of Instituto Anglo Moderno from 800 to 1,550 students and the establishment of a new campus in Marina Mazatlán. This growth reflects our commitment to providing quality education and our ability to adapt and innovate in response to changing needs. Additionally, leading the Hospital for Children in Mexico City through critical phases, including its sale, was a significant achievement that showcased our resilience and strategic planning.
What are your future plans and goals in the field of education and philanthropy?
Looking ahead, I aim to continue making a positive impact through new educational initiatives and healthcare projects. I am particularly interested in leveraging technology to further enhance learning experiences and expand access to education. In terms of philanthropy, I plan to engage more in disaster relief efforts and support community resilience programs. My goal is to build on our successes and contribute to creating a more inclusive and supportive society.
