Research shows that eight out of ten people across England and Wales usually drink tap water in the comfort of their own homes. While it’s excellent that attitudes towards water consumption are changing, it’s important to remember that a significant chunk of our daily life is spent outside our homes – including the 36.2 hours we spend in our workplaces.

Only a few UK workplaces focus on hydration, despite water consumption correlating with happier, healthier employees. Therefore, businesses must understand the importance of having correctly hydrated employees by making it a part of their workplace wellness strategy.

From making water readily available to your employees and comparing business water contracts for cost-effective, cleaner, and tastier water – we list some of the ways you can make water consumption part of your workplace wellness strategy below.

Make Water Readily Available

One of the simplest ways to make water consumption part of your workplace wellness strategy is by making it readily available through water fountains, coolers, and much more. Placing water fountains and coolers around the office serves as a visual reminder for employees to drink water, plus ensuring that they’re always full and well-maintained.

Suppose you’re fortunate enough to have a substantial workspace. In that case, you might benefit from installing water coolers and fountains in various locations so that no matter where staff are, they always have access to fresh water. The quality of your water is also something you should consider, as the fresher the water, the better the benefits. By comparing water rates using companies like The Business Water Shop, you can ensure that your business is getting the freshest (and most cost-effective) water.

Promote It (Literally!)

Another simple way to make water consumption part of your workplace wellness system is by promoting it with reusable mugs or thermos decorated with your company logo and slogan. It will give them something to use, whether in the office or out, and it also serves as visual promotion for your business.

You could even take it a step further and customise them. As such, you can make them brightly coloured or have indication lines so that employees can track how much they’ve drunk throughout the day. Customisation is fun, and not only that, but it can increase the likelihood of employees using the accessory, increasing their water consumption.

Stock The Break Room With Water-Rich Alternatives

Drinking plain water isn’t the only way that staff can increase their water consumption; there are many ways that you can stay hydrated with water-rich alternatives. So, if you happen to have a staff member that isn’t so keen on the taste of plain water, you could consider adding a few of the suggestions below to the break room:

Fresh Fruit

Unsweetened Tea or Juice

Coconut Water

Fresh Vegetables

Milk

Porridge Oats, and much more.

As the name suggests, water-rich alternatives can help your staff keep hydrated without tracking their water consumption since they retain water released into the body once consumed. So, ensure that you have plenty of offerings for them to keep it fun and so they don’t grow bored of plain water!
